Potential Constructions of the Image and Sound

As we were on the train to record the sound and film for our second minute (the sea scene), we decided to change our piece and ended up developing our idea for the soundscape. I thought it would be interesting to have the sounds for our three locations mixed up, for example the sounds of the forest being behind the images of the sea shot. We are yet to experiment with this practically but have thus far decided on the following:

  • The "City" shot (by the tramline in Sheffield) with the sounds of the sea over the top.
  • The "Sea" shot (filmed today in Cleethorpes) with the sounds of the forest over the top.
  • The "Forest" shot (which we are yet to film) with the sounds of the city over the top.
Of course, this may not be successful, however, we thought it would keep the audience interested and give them something to think about. In a strange sense, it adds to the loneliness; the audience are searching for the source of the sound in the images.

These are the sounds we have already recorded/have planned to record for the three scenarios:

  • City: The slow sounds of a harmonica throughout, along with the rush of passing trams.
  • Sea: Waves, birds and Dom's vocals over the top, with an added echo to it.
  • Forest: Fire crackling, ukulele, leaves rustling, the wind in the trees.
Our Locations.
