Filming went very well today. We got all we needed and more in order to really capture Michael's personality. I made sure I got plenty of hand shots as Michael repaired an instrument for one of his customers. This would work well in the final edit as through his hands, you can really see the passion he has for restoring and making instruments.
We also asked him plenty of questions so we have a variety of anecdotes from Michael to choose from for our final edit. I thought the interview set-up also works really well. Chris and I spent quite a long time ensuring that it looks interesting enough to use in the edit, taking influence from The Archive. In the end I chose a medium shot of Michael with a cello in view on his workstation because we only really want to capture him in his enclosed world.
Overall, the filming went very smoothly today with just the four of us (which actually left more space for manoeuvring) - me, Chris, Joe and Paul. Conversely, we now have so much footage and less than a week to edit it into a five minute piece which will prove stressful, but because we have worked so well together as a team so far, I am sure we will be efficient and all of us have a similar vision as to what we want the end project to look like; to really capture Michael's personality. Lastly, we need to record Paul's friend playing the violin. We have booked her for lunchtime on Tuesday - two days before we present it! Nonetheless, we will make sure it's almost done before then.
